Protein rich foods should be fed approximately one time every week but not more than once every four days. For all of the dry foods that are high in protein make sure to soak them before feeding to make sure they don't swell in the stomach or dehydrate the snail. In addition these foods should be removed after 8 hours to prevent them from eating too much protein over a longer period of time.Â
Foods that are high in sugar should only be given as a treat occasionally and should be given in smaller amounts because snails are able to over eat on these foods.
Other safe foods should always be offered. Snails are able to regulate how much food they need of normal safe foods and they should always be available so they can access them as needed. If they are not it can lead to stunted growth or malnutrition. Remove uneaten food after 24 hours and replace.
Calcium should always be offered separate and never on the other foods. This will lead to over consumption of calcium and can lead to health issues. Snails are able to self-regulate their calcium intake, and will eat it as and when they need it. Sometimes they will go days or weeks without it, especially when they're fully grown, and other times they'll spend a week not moving from the cuttlefish.
Frozen foods are ok as long as they don't contain salt or seasoning and are thawed 100% before you give them to your snails!
