Origin: Angola, Congo, and Tanzania

Habitat size : A tank with a base length of about 35–40 cm is sufficent

Habitat information: At Least 10 Cm of substrate. They are very fond of climbing so adding something for them to climb is advised

Digested substrate is excreted as uniform pellets (frass), When the substrate becomes predominantly frass after many months, refresh 30-50% of the volume with new white wood and leaf litter.

Nutrition 🥦: Millipedes are detritivores meaning they eat decaying organic matter. 

This includes:

Decaying hardwood leaves

Rotting hardwood (mycelium indicates rot, look for wood that falls apart easily)

Living plant matter (mosses, lichens, grasses, ferns, vegetables, etc)

Other decomposing organisms (Mold, bacteria, fungus)

That means substrate is super important as it is the millipede’s main diet. Supplemental feeding of vegetables/fruits/etc should be infrequent, maybe once a week. Protein should be offered more often, like twice a week.

Other information: deep olive green with gold legs. Males have a visible hood as compared to Giant Africans. Egg laying occurs in the fall and early winter. Eggs are large (2mm diameter) and yellow. Egg capsules come in a triangular shape and are fragile when exposed. Moderate die off.
